Description

Plant Profile

Java Fern Trident Mini on Driftwood is a pre-mounted hardscape arrangement featuring slender, fork-lobed fronds in a compact, dwarf scale. Pre-attached to natural, aquarium-safe driftwood, this ready-to-drop piece combines the intricate aesthetic of Java Fern Trident with ultimate plug-and-play convenience, eliminating the need to tie or glue individual rhizomes. Virtually bulletproof and delightfully unbothered by parameter swings or curious herbivorous fish, it brings instant structure and natural depth to nano tanks and midground layouts right out of the box.

Key Features & Notes

Tough, fibrous foliage easily withstands curious nipping from herbivorous fish like cichlids, goldfish, and large snails.

Pre-attached to natural driftwood pieces, providing an effortless centerpiece that requires zero gluing, tying, or substrate planting.

Exceptional hardiness lets it thrive in non-CO2 tanks and low-light environments.

Care & Planting Instructions

Prep the plant by rinsing the mounted driftwood piece gently in clean freshwater to remove any loose debris before placing it directly into your aquarium.

Java Fern Trident Mini on Driftwood is an epiphytic fern that comes pre-bound to hardscape; position the driftwood directly on top of your substrate or wedged between rocks, ensuring the horizontal rhizome remains exposed and unburied.

Avoid making drastic changes to your water parameters or lighting because unstable conditions are the primary cause of leaf melt in new specimens.

While this plant is hardy and low-maintenance in standard setups, gentle water movement and regular liquid fertilizing will yield much faster growth and broader fronds.

Master long-term care and troubleshoot common leaf issues by checking out our Java Fern Care Guide.

Final size and foliage pattern depend entirely on your specific aquarium conditions; please note that photos are a representation, and individual wood shapes and plant arrangements may vary.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why is the driftwood releasing a slight yellow or tea color into my water?

Natural driftwood slowly releases organic compounds called tannins into the water column. These tannins are completely harmless, slightly lower the water pH, and create a natural environment beneficial for soft-water fish like tetras and South American cichlids. You can easily remove the tint with regular water changes or by adding activated carbon / Purigen to your filter.

2. Can I remove the Java Fern Trident Mini from the driftwood piece?

Yes. If you wish to detach it later, you can carefully snip the securing thread or cut the roots away from the wood. Once separated, the rhizomes can be re-bound or glued onto other hardscape features in your aquarium.

3. Can I plant the attached driftwood into the substrate?

You can rest the driftwood piece on top of your substrate, but you must ensure the green rhizome of the Java Fern remains above the substrate line. Burying the wood so deeply that the rhizome gets covered will cause the fern to rot and die.

4. Will fish like cichlids or goldfish eat Java Fern Trident Mini on Driftwood?

Generally, no. Java Fern leaves are thick, fibrous, and contain bitter-tasting compounds that deter most plant-eating fish. Because the plant is already bound firmly to heavy driftwood, it is also much harder for energetic fish to uproot or knock around.
