Description
Species Overview
The Von Rio Tetra is one of the classic community fish of the freshwater aquarium hobby. Known for its vibrant red, orange, and bronze coloration, peaceful temperament, and active schooling behavior, the Von Rio Tetra has remained popular with aquarists for generations. When maintained in proper groups, these colorful tetras bring constant movement and flashes of warm color to the aquarium.
Despite their relatively small size, Von Rio Tetras have a strong presence within a planted aquarium. Their glowing orange-red bodies contrast beautifully against green aquatic plants, dark substrates, and natural hardscape. As a school moves through the aquarium together, the fish create an effect that many hobbyists compare to a living flame moving through the aquascape.
Von Rio Tetras are highly adaptable community fish that coexist well with many other peaceful species. Their active yet non-aggressive nature makes them excellent choices for planted aquariums, community tanks, and nature-inspired freshwater ecosystems. Unlike some more delicate tetra species, Von Rio Tetras are generally forgiving and well suited to beginner hobbyists.
Whether you are building your first community aquarium or adding color and activity to an established planted tank, the Von Rio Tetra remains one of the most rewarding schooling fish available.
