Description

The Green Ivory Guppy (Poecilia reticulata) is a distinctive fancy guppy variety that brings a different look to the planted aquarium or peaceful freshwater community. Like other selectively bred fancy guppies, males and females show natural differences in size, coloration, body shape, and finnage, with each individual developing its own appearance as it matures.

Green Ivory Guppies are active, social livebearers that spend much of the day exploring the upper and middle portions of the aquarium. Their peaceful temperament and manageable size make them well suited to planted displays and carefully selected community aquariums, while their constant activity ensures there is almost always something happening in the tank.

Our Green Ivory Guppies are Tank Bred and available as males, females, or pairs. Their approachable care requirements, lively personality, and less commonly encountered strain make them an excellent option for both longtime guppy enthusiasts and aquarists looking to add something different to a freshwater aquarium.

Quick Care Guide

Care Level: Easy. Green Ivory Guppies are hardy and adaptable when provided with stable water conditions, making them approachable for newer aquarists while remaining rewarding for experienced guppy keepers.

Temperament: Peaceful. Green Ivory Guppies generally coexist well with other peaceful community species that share similar water requirements and are not prone to fin nipping.

Diet: Omnivore. A varied diet combining high-quality prepared foods with appropriately sized frozen and live foods supports healthy growth, body condition, and reproduction.

Source: Tank Bred. These Green Ivory Guppies have been produced in captivity rather than collected from the wild.

Average Adult Size: Approximately 1.5–2.5 inches. Adult females typically grow larger and fuller-bodied than males, while males generally remain smaller.

Suggested Minimum Aquarium Size: 10 gallons. Larger aquariums provide greater water stability and additional swimming space, particularly when maintaining groups or allowing a breeding population to develop.

Swimming Zone: Upper to Middle Water Column. Green Ivory Guppies spend much of their time actively swimming and foraging throughout these areas of the aquarium.

Activity Level: Active. Expect frequent swimming, feeding activity, social interactions, and exploration throughout the day.

Social Behavior: Social. Green Ivory Guppies benefit from the presence of other compatible guppies, although males may frequently court females when both sexes are maintained together.

Breeding: Livebearer. Females give birth to fully formed, free-swimming fry rather than laying eggs.

Approximate Purchase Size: Approximately 1–1.5 inches. Individual size, coloration, and finnage can vary depending on age, sex, and natural development.

Water Parameters

Temperature: 72°–82°F (22°–28°C). Green Ivory Guppies tolerate a reasonably broad tropical temperature range, but maintaining a stable temperature is more important than routinely allowing the aquarium to fluctuate between extremes.

pH: 7.0–8.2. Neutral to moderately alkaline water is well suited to Green Ivory Guppies, particularly when the aquarium maintains consistent mineral content and water chemistry.

General Hardness (GH): 8–18 dGH. Guppies generally perform best in moderately hard to hard water that provides the dissolved minerals important for healthy growth and long-term condition.

Carbonate Hardness (KH): 4–12 dKH. Adequate carbonate hardness helps buffer the aquarium against sudden changes in pH and contributes to a more stable environment.

Clean, stable water should always take priority over chasing an exact number within these ranges. Routine partial water changes, appropriate filtration, and avoiding sudden shifts in temperature or water chemistry will help Green Ivory Guppies remain active and healthy.
