Day 1 (0.2 mg/kg)
Day 2 onwards, once a day (0.1 mg/kg)

Under 10 kg

1.5 mg, about ½ tablet

20 kg

With food: give with or just after a meal unless your vet says otherwise.

Best time of day: pick one time, such as breakfast, and keep to it every day.

Splitting: use the score line. Do not crush or break into small pieces by eye.

How long: your vet sets the number of days. Short courses suit pain after surgery. Dogs on long-term arthritis care need regular check-ups.

If your dog vomits within an hour: do not repeat the dose. Note the time and call your vet.

Water: keep fresh water available throughout treatment.

What Should You Do If You Miss a Dose?

Give the missed dose when you remember, unless it is close to the next dose.

If the next dose is almost due, skip the missed one and carry on.

Never give a double dose to catch up.

If several doses were missed, call your vet before restarting.

How This Medicine Works

Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It lowers the body chemicals that cause pain and swelling, so a sore joint or a surgical wound feels better. It relieves symptoms and does not cure the underlying problem, and it is not an antibiotic.

Side Effects in Pets

Most common: less appetite, vomiting, loose stools.

Call your vet the same day for: black or bloody stools, repeated vomiting, unusual tiredness, increased thirst or urination, yellow gums or eyes.

Allergic reaction: facial swelling, hives or breathing trouble need emergency care.

Overdose: if you think too much was given, call your vet or an emergency clinic straight away and carry the strip.

Safety Advice

Kidney, liver or heart disease, and stomach ulcers: tell your vet before starting.

Pregnant or nursing dogs, and puppies under 6 weeks: do not use unless a vet advises it.

Other NSAIDs and steroids: never give together with Melobest. Your vet will tell you how long to wait between them.

Dehydrated, very old or very young dogs: need extra monitoring.

Cats: this is a dog tablet. Cats are very sensitive to NSAIDs, so never give it to a cat.

Humans: keep out of reach of children. For animal use only.

Storage: keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. In Indian heat and monsoon humidity, keep the strip in its pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Melobest Pet tablet used for?

Melobest Pet tablet is a vet-prescribed pain and anti-inflammatory medicine for dogs. It treats osteoarthritis and other muscle and joint problems, pain before and after surgery, dental procedures, and ear infections, alongside your vet’s treatment. Your vet determines the dose and duration, so follow their prescription exactly.

What is the Melobest tablet dosage for dogs per kg?

The usual Melobest tablet dosage for dogs is 0.2 mg per kg on day 1, then 0.1 mg per kg once a day. Each tablet is 2.5 mg, so a 25 kg dog gets 2 tablets on day 1 and 1 tablet daily after that. Your vet confirms the dose and number of days.

Is meloxicam a good painkiller for dogs?

Yes, meloxicam is one of the most widely prescribed pain and inflammation medicines for dogs, especially for arthritis and after surgery. It works best at a vet-set dose with regular checks, because like all NSAIDs it can upset the stomach or affect the kidneys in some dogs.

How long can I give my dog meloxicam?

Only for as long as your vet advises. Short courses are common after surgery, while long-term meloxicam use for arthritis needs regular vet check-ups to confirm it is still safe for your dog. Never extend the course or restart it on your own, even if your dog seems comfortable again.

What time of day should I give my dog Melobest?

Any time of day works, as long as it is the same time every day. Many pet parents give Melobest with breakfast because food is gentler on the stomach. The melt-in-mouth tablet is flavoured, so most dogs take it without a fight. Follow your vet’s instructions on food and timing.

What are the worst side effects of meloxicam in dogs?

The serious ones are black or bloody stool, repeated vomiting, and signs of kidney trouble such as drinking and urinating much more than usual. Stop the meloxicam tablet and call your vet the same day if you see any of these. Milder effects include reduced appetite and loose stool.

Can I give Melobest to my cat?

No. Melobest Pet is a dog tablet and should not be given to cats. Cats are very sensitive to NSAIDs, and the wrong dose can damage the kidneys. If your cat is in pain, see a vet first so a cat-safe medicine and dose can be prescribed.

Is it safe to give Melobest with other medicines?

Never give Melobest with another NSAID or a steroid, as the combination raises the risk of stomach ulcers and kidney problems. For anything else, tell your vet about every medicine and supplement your dog takes, and wait for their go-ahead before combining. Do not start a new medicine on your own.

How much does Melobest Pet cost?

Check the live price on this page, as it can change with offers. Melobest Pet tablets come as one strip of 10 scored, melt-in-mouth tablets of 2.5 mg, and a prescription is required. Upload your vet’s prescription when placing the order. Ask your vet how many strips your dog’s course needs.
